Rules & Safety

You’re in safe hands at Sandcastle Waterpark with our unrivalled reputation for guest safety.  Sandcastle Waterpark are a centre of excellence for lifeguard training! Always keep an eye on your children, they are still your responsibility. Lifeguards cannot watch every single person in the pool constantly, other areas e.g. play structures such as the Caribbean Storm, may be unattended.

 

Safety Ratios

Children 12 years and over, who are confident swimmers, may enter the Waterpark unaccompanied.

Children under 12

All children under 12 must be supervised in the Waterpark by an adult (aged 18 years or older), as follows:

Supervision in the Water – Ratios

NB: Weak or non-swimmers are guests who cannot swim 25 metres.

One adult may supervise up to five children aged 8 and above who can swim 25 metres or more without flotation.

Children under 8 years

All children under 8 years, regardless of swimming ability, must be supervised in the water, in very close proximity, by an adult (aged 18 years or older).This person may be responsible for children as follows:

Adult Child Ratio

1 Adult (aged 18 years or older) can supervise 1 child 3 years and younger.

Adult 2Child Ratio

1 Adult (aged 18 years or older) can supervise 2 children between 4-7 years.

Children 8 years and over

All children 8 years and over, who are weak or non swimmers, must be supervised in the water by an adult. This person may be responsible for children as follows:

Adult 2Teen Ratio

1 Adult(aged 18 years or older) can supervise 2 children of 8 years and over, who are weak or non swimmers.

NB: The Management team are happy to discuss individual safety requirements, including Adult to Child Ratios.

 

Swimwear Policy - Important

In the interest of Public Health, Health & Safety and the cleanliness of our pool water, appropriate swimwear, made of Polyester or Nylon, must be worn at all times when visiting Sandcastle Waterpark. Please ensure that you swimwear is suitable for a hypochlorite disinfection system (some costumes may become discoloured) – we cannot accept responsibility for damage to costumes.

Guests are not permitted to wear outdoor clothing or footwear of any kind in the pools or on slides. Our swim shack has a wide range of swimwear and towels to purchase.

External clothing is NOT permitted in any of our pools.

ON ARRIVAL:

In the interests of health and safety and providing the best standards of hygiene, guests wearing anything deemed to be classed as non swimwear will be asked to change. Please ensure you read our policy below relating to swimwear.

To minimise time in the Changing Village, wherever possible, please arrive beach ready. Some of our guests, particularly younger guests, arrive with their swimming attire under their clothing, changing is a case of storing all outdoor clothing and bags in your locker and making your way into the Waterpark to enjoy your visit.

WHEN YOUR SESSION HAS ENDED:

When your session in the Waterpark has ended and your wristband colour is called, please make your way to the Changing Village for departure. There are 3 sets of communal showers in the Changing Village and swimwear MUST be worn at all times when using our shower facilities – thank you.

Please note that the Changing Village closes 30 minutes after the Waterpark

Swimwear Accepted

Appropriate swimwear includes the following: swimming trunks, swimming shorts (including knee length shorts e.g. board shorts), swimming costumes, swimdress, bikini’s, tankini’s, burkini’s, Hijoods (or other similar swimwear). N.B. Under certain circumstances close fitting plain t-shirts may also be worn at the discretion of the Waterpark Supervisor.

Inappropriate swimwear includes the following: Underwear, transparent costumes or thongs (or anything with obscene or offensive pictures or slogans), sporting wear, denim or cotton leggings/leotards, long flowing clothes, baggy t-shirts, swimwear with protruding designs or accessories that could be abrasive to other swimmers and our slides and attractions e.g. pins, rivets, buckles, zippers, buttons etc. Long necklaces, chains and jewellery should also be removed. Sandcastle Management reserve the right to determine whether or not swimwear is appropriate.

Please ensure that your swimwear is suitable for a bromide hypochlorite disinfection system (some costumes may become discoloured) – we cannot be held responsible for any damage to items of swimwear.

Regular nappies are not permitted in any pool (swim nappies are available for purchase at reception and the Swim Shack).

Guests who do not wear appropriate attire will be asked to change.

Swimwear Accepted U5

For under 5’s, to help maintain body heat without restricting movement, the following swimwear is also permitted: Neoprene Baby Wraps, knee-length suits, float suits or neoprene “float jackets” (N.B. Longer than knee/elbow length wet suits are not permitted). 

Glasses/Spectacles

The wearing of spectacles is not permitted unless on lanyards (lanyards are available at reception and the Swim Shack) N.B. Spectacles are not permitted whatsoever on the Duelling Dragons or Montazooma speed slides.

Jewellery

For health and safety reasons and also to prevent possible tarnishing, jewellery should not be worn in the pools, or on the slides and attractions.

N.B. Please ensure your swimwear is suitable for our water disinfection chemicals and is durable for use on the slides. Unfortunately, due to the nature of slide riding, we cannot accept responsibility for damage to costumes particularly if the slide rules are not followed.

 

 

General safey information

  • Please read all safety information and signs including the full pools Safety Information, please also follow the lifeguards’ instructions.
  • Wearing of jewellery – In the interests of health and safety and in order to prevent possible tarnishing, jewellery should not be worn in the pools, or on the slides and attractions. Guests using our Sea Breeze Spa and VIP Tiki Cabana are also requested to remove jewellery before using the facilities in these areas.
  • For safety, all glasses must be secured on a lanyard while inside the waterpark.
  • Always keep an eye on your children, they are still your responsibility, lifeguards cannot watch every single Guest in the Waterpark constantly.
  • The use of Go-Pro’s, mobile phones, camera’s and any other electronic filming or photography devices is forbidden throughout our Waterpark and on any slides or attractions.
  • Some areas e.g. Caribbean Storm, HMS Thundersplash, Fort Riptide & Super Soaker, will be unattended.
  • Sandcastle Waterpark, including all surrounding areas, foyers and changing facilities, will be wet underfoot, please therefore ensure that you are always aware of your surroundings and use handrails where available e.g. stairways and ramps……strictly no running.
  • Additionally, please ensure you take care when entering and exiting all slides and attractions as, by the very nature of waterslides, they can be slippy.
  • For your safety, do not ride the slides if you have certain disabilities, impairments or if you are pregnant. N.B. by the very nature of slide riding (especially if you do not follow all safety information), you may get bumped around or come off your tube. Sandcastle Waterpark therefore does not accept liability for injury caused by non-negligent acts.
  • Due to space restrictions and to prevent unnecessary incidents, inflatables are not permitted inside the Waterpark or in any of our pools. Only inflatable swim rings and baby swim seats are permitted to aid buoyancy and support babies/younger children and non/weak swimmers.
  • Children who are weak or non-swimmers must wear, as a minimum, double chambered armbands.
    Babies should only be taken into the water for short time periods e.g. 5-10 minutes initially, due to loss of body heat. Very young babies should not be taken into the water.
  • Due to new Government guidelines and for security and guest’ safety we do not allow any large suitcases or luggage. We understand guests my be departing or arriving from nearby accommodation, but storage within our changing village, does have limitations, especially during busy periods of the year such as School holidays. If you could make provisions with your hotel provider or the nearest Locker unit.
  • Please ensure babies and young children who have not been toilet trained wear swim nappies. Babies and young children suffering from diarrhoea should be kept out of the water.
  • To help keep our pool water to a high standard please ensure you have a pre-swim shower.

Life Vests / Buoyancy Aids

Sandcastle Waterpark has a number of life vests available to use, at no cost, when visiting our Waterpark. The sizes available are listed below for you. These are available on a first come, first serve basis and are subject to availability when you visit.

You can of course bring your own (life vests, arm bands and water rings for babies and toddlers are all permitted to be used in the pools) or, you can purchase Life vests and arm bands from our Swim Shop located adjacent to Reception.

Please remember, water safety is of the utmost importance and please ensure that weak or non swimmers in your party are wearing the required life vest or buoyancy aid when visiting.

IMPORTANT

Water Safety Jackets are provided for your child’s safety. Please report any problems with your Water Safety Jacket before use and ask for assistance should you require any. Please keep your Water Safety Jacket fastened at all times. Sandcastle Waterpark cannot accept liability for improper usage of the Water Safety Jackets. All of our Water Safety Jackets are security tagged and must not be taken out of the Waterpark. An alarm will sound if the Water Safety Jacket is removed from the Waterpark. Please return your Water Safety Jacket back here at the end of the day.

Rides & Attractions

Masterblaster, Montazooma, Aztec Falls, Duelling Dragons & Sidewinder

  • These are very intense participatory gravity/water powered thrill rides, guests who have certain disabilities, impairments or if pregnant should not ride the slides.
  • Please read the safety signage at the tube or mat pick up points and at the start of the slide.
  • All riders, especially younger children, must be capable of holding on to their tube and must have the strength to keep their bottoms off the slide surface to prevent injury.
  • To avoid injury riders must all be able to move their bodies in all planes of motion and accept the inherent risks in slide riding.

Masterblaster, Montazooma & Aztec Falls

  • Riders must at least be 1.2 metres tall.
  • Riders must be 8 years and over
  • Maximum weight restriction is 18 stone.

Sidewinder

  • Riders must be 6 years and over.
  • Riders must at least be 1.1 metres tall.
  • Maximum weight restriction is 18 stone.

Due to the swimming proficiency required for certain slides, guests may be asked to complete a brief swim test at the discretion of the lifeguards before being permitted to ride.
